Aristophot Postcards
Hugh variety of Postcards and more
Aristophot published and printed many millions of postcards. Was represented in a number of countries and quite some of their cards shows a typical "Printed in Germany" imprint. This chapter is on their real photo card output only. As they had also a well-equipped litho/letterpress printing shop. There are also a number of cards with sort of frame/border designs with small real photo prints inserted. Shown is a single sample only.
Aristophot cards cover nearly all designs popular then. From beautiful women, musicians and other famous persons from history, greetings for all occassions, landscapes, art reproductions, Lychnogravuere coloured/sepia and so on and on. Popular were Aristophot‘s alphabet and (first) name but also the earlier capital letters series. According their own words, millions of these alone were sold.
Their own photopaper (ACA brand) was used mainly for a joint-venture business with Wuerthle & Sons from Austria. A bigger publisher and also (collotype) printer (also with a factory in south Germany). Said to have published some 6000 alpine views on photo paper, all from Aristophot works. Wuerthle had to declare bankruptcy later. Aristophot closed their Swiss photopaper works then.
Aristophot worked also as contract printers. Real photo as well as Autochrome printed cards. This included typical views of places and landscapes. They show no AL logo but the full name is found imprinted in the stamp box. I should mention also the various AL stereo and cigarette/trade cards, but concentrate here on AL photo cards only. See the product range advert on previous page for more details.
