Kunstanstalt Wilh. Hoffmann A.G. postcards
Final comments
Wilhelm Hoffmann was a bigger ppc printer, but not during the entire company history with changing owners. Likely in the period from about 1895-1912 postcards played a bigger role for them. Printed posters, art prints (facsimile) and even a periodical named "Die Glashuette Dresdner Fremdenblatt".
During the early stage (chromo)lithography process was used but their major printing process was definitely collotype. Either mono/duotone prints or in combination with lithography ("machine-colouring"). Hoffmann worked also a publisher, but this part of business appears to had been dropped by about 1905.
Most of their production was likely contract printing. Wilh. Hoffmann cards do show some elements good for identification. However, this requires some experience and a good stock of clearly Hoffmann cards to compare. The selection below consists of cards showing the name, sometimes imprinted in full. Their major logo was an oval shaped name imprint which is according my actual knowledge always found on picture side. More precisely it was arranged inside the lower portion of image. Sometimes easy to overlook. Nearly all cards I have seen so far were typical picture postcards ("topo") except few artist done samples. Likely there were more.
Below a handful of Hoffmann printed cards/designs. All of pre-1914 date. Click on first or any other image for individual enlarged view.
