Stern & Schiele Postcards
A small selection of S&S ppc's
I have collected S&S postcards as well as samples from the period Dammeyer & Co. was their daughter business for many years. Not really seriously, only when spotted by chance. Below you find a selection of S&S and D. C. B. cards, but some not yet discovered designs may still be missing. The majority of illustrated cards show the company logo(s) or full name imprinted. The many views they printed for customers are (almost) not considered.
S&S produced a wide variety of postcard designs, makes and quality. From standard monochrome collotype printed views, duotone photo imitation cards of high quality, matte and glossy lacque real photo imitations, combined collotype/lithography samples, full colour collotype cards, many for the time of amazing quality. Hand-/stencil colouring, often combined with machine-colouring (lithography), (semi-)glossy gelatine foil finishing, embossing, dye stamping and so on. The daughter company Fabian & Co. appears to had concentrated on gravure process, also for postcards.
Many of S&S‘s own card series were printed on cream/buff stock with a (medium) rough surface. Good for any manual colouring work but the printing comes out well, too. An interesting printing/publishing company indeed. In business for a longer period although postcards might not have had played a major role anymore in the 1930‘s.
